ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME

Glass meets metal to produce an astounding array of effects. Beginners will learn simple techniques and then join more experienced students to create finished pieces. Copper for two projects and all enamels are supplied. A materials fee of $10 is payable at the first class.

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME

This class introduces students to basic silversmithing skills, including torch soldering, surface embellishment, bezel setting, and cold connections. Students will produce several pieces of jewelry, which may include simple earrings, pendants, rings, and a short length of chain. The materials fee (due at the first class) will provide a kit of consumables, including silver for between $50-100 depending on the current silver market.

Metal clay can seem like magic - pliable and versatile in its raw state, it transforms in the kiln to solid metal. Explore different metal clays and techniques, including setting stones, making bezels, and hollow forming. Clay and stones may be purchased from the instructor.

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME - ADULTS AND FOCUSED TEENS 13 AND UP

Learn the basics of making jewelry with bronze clay, a pliable compound that fires to solid metal. Bronze clay is a good introduction to metal clay and is an economical starting material. Kit cost is $40 per participant and includes one packet of clay, payable to instructor by cash or check at first class.

Bring your collection of found objects and explore possible relationships between them, creating characters similar to those in Jann Greenland's recent "What Might Be" exhibition. Create wire mounts for the objects and secure them to a wood panel. $20 kit fee payable to instructor at beginning of first class. (Learn to make a shadowbox for your found objects in a companion woodworking workshop offered this Fall. Stufents who register for this workshop will receive $10 off the companion woodworking workshop.)

Add detail and complexity to your designs with three techniques that mix different types of metals into a single piece. Laminate metals using sweat soldering and rolling mill; join metals like a puzzle, using precise sawing, filing and soldering; and inlay silver solder into a channel carved into base metal.

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME

Design and create a three-dimensional sculpture using "found objects," tidbits with an interesting shape, patina, or sense of mystery. Bring small found objects to add to a copper sheet that's approximately 12"x12". Some objects will be available in the studio. Bring a materials fee of $60.
